Today’s review is of The Selection:

Author: Kiera Cass

Publisher: Harper Collins

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Summary: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself- and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Wow, this is a book which I read in about 1 hour, and for good reason too. I couldn’t put it down! I found America’s character much more okay than most people had suggested. However, I didn’t like the fact that she was made to be so ‘special’ and everyone else could see it but her! Prince Maxon melted my heart. If only someone like him was around for me… Compassionate, kind, selfless, hot and loveable are all qualities of Maxon and I love him so much! I’m sad to say that I hate Aspen with a passion and think that he ruined the whole story. Literally, I couldn’t stop reading this and as soon as I finished it, I demanded for The Elite. Talking about other books, I just found out today that they’re releasing more books for the Selection series: The Heir and something else!! I cannot wait and I also NEED to get my hands on The One. Overall, an amazing, heart-warming, romantic YA book which I thoroughly enjoyed and will be re-reading one day.
